BANGKOK INTERNATIONAL FASHION FAIR AND BANGKOK INTERNATIONAL LEATHER FAIR 2007

August 22 – 26, 2007
At the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC)

Fashion Network is one of the T3/ Thai Cluster projects launched by the Department of Export Promotion to showcase the latest fashion trends. The first Spring/ Summer 08 trends to be displayed during the Bangkok International Fashion Fair and Bangkok International Leather Fair — BIFF&BIL 2007 — will focus on the creative capabilities and leadership potential of ASEAN fashion industries, whilst providing an opportunity for fair visitors to pre-view the latest fashion trends on 22-26 August 2007 at BITEC Bangna.

Fashion Network is a follow-up of the Thai Tex Trend (T3) project. Both projects highlight Thailand's fully integrated fashion industry and visibly demonstrate to markets worldwide the country's capabilities in producing upstream products and downstream ready-to-wear items. Thai industry also produces seasonal fashion collections to supply world markets.

Under the guidance of experts from Mitor Textile Consultancy Services in Italy, project participants studied global fashion trends and European consumer needs. A study was made of the production capabilities of individual participants and their ability to develop new products. Guidelines and advice were also offered in regard to fashion market trends for different seasons of the year. Fashion trends for Spring/ Summer 08 will be launched for the first time at BIFF&BIL 07. This year’s seasonal concept comprises 3 themes, namely, Ephemeral, Concrete and Extrovert.

Ephemeral reflects the magic of fleeting and fragile dreams, the innocence and sweetness of a shy young maiden inspired by gentle breezes and sense of freedom. Fabrics used to express this concept are delicately woven with fine yarns.

Fabric textures must have the characteristics of natural fibers such silks, cottons or polyesters that have been treated to enhance the smooth and lustrous surface, inspiring a mood of lightness and boundless imagination. Monochrome stripes and jacquard designs enhance the feeling of femininity. The coating and finishes enhance the airiness and delicacy of the surface. Colors which represent this concept are dark blues, shades of violet and mint.

Concrete underscores reality, clarity, determination, earthy, back to nature and the ordinary life. This concept emerges from a simplified lifestyle in the countryside. The various stages of finishing and coating denote the agelessness of time. Silhouettes are simple but not necessarily complete. Fabric styles rely mainly on cottons which stand for raw nature, canvas, poplins, pleats, washed-out fabrics, and organically dyed fibers. Printing techniques and patterns must evoke a sense of simplicity - floral designs, large-print stripes of yesteryear shirts, animal designs or bucolic scenes. Colors are various shades of green, orange, beige and all the natural tones.

Lastly, the Extrovert style looks abstract, open, ferocious and imbued with a power of contradictions that mix and combine to form annuity. Fabrics emphasize light and brightness by using primary colors that are extreme contrasts. For example, ultra –light cottons and mercerized linens. Traditional silks become fleet and sleek. Natural yarns are matt and shiny. The fabrics are over-dyed with saturated colors. Contemporary digital prints blended with shantung silks bases. Colors that represent for this concept are red rose, acid orange and shades of purples.
